Logo Design
You may have noticed that the blog look and feel changed a bit today
We have a new logo and some small changes to the color scheme and content!
Last month Jai Catalano and I worked together on this logo design. He was great to work with and very, very speedy getting back to me with each requested change.
Look for more changes to come, both here on the blog and also at the home site for FamilyMoneyValues as we move forward to implement the logo.
I’ve gone without a logo for almost 2 years now, not because I consider a logo to be unimportant, but because I wanted to get it right.
Our new logo design is meant to convey a message.
What our new logo means.
Our mission, as stated in our tagline, is to help families maintain their wealth and well being for generations to come. With our logo, we attempted to convey that same message.
The mountain image – with the soaring Teton like lines is meant to convey permanence, longevity and endurance – as in generation after generation of family members staying the course with common values and goals.
The colors – with the light grey of the mountain lines suggesting trust and stability and the golden tones conveying hope and wealth, hopefully add to the message.
The setting sun, shining down on the ever present mountain tries to suggest the elders watching over the next generation of family.
The words – Family Money Values – not only are the name of our site and blog, but represent what we feel is most important to generational wealth – values.
What is a logo?
Most folks know that a logo is a graphic representation of the company, typically designed and used in hopes of allowing instant recognition of that company’s particular brand.
Why is a logo important?
A logo can help give an image of your company to your customers, it is part of your company’s personal brand – part of it’s marketing message.
How do you design a logo?
Before you design a logo, or have one designed for you, define the essence of your business clearly. What is your business’s value proposition, what values does it hold and what are it’s goals. What emotion do you want the mention of your business to arouse in the minds of those encountering it?
Consider color, font, line direction, image and wording when designing your logo. Make sure that each area supports the message and emotion desired.
Should you trademark your logo?
In order to get total legal protection for your logo, consider filing for a trademark.
This has to be done within each country where the trademark is to be used – I believe. However, according to some sources, in the US, if you use your logo consistently and publicly to represent your company or product, a common law trademark exists which may afford some protection.
If you accidentally (or on purpose) use someone else’s logo to represent your company or product, that company may bring legal action against you. If your new logo is deemed to be closely resembling that of another company, you may also be sued.
If you fear litigation, or feel that your logo may be stolen and used by others, consider filing a trademark application.
