Wealth
I’m sitting outside drinking a glass of red wine, watching the sun set behind the colored trees of autumn, on a warm October day, my first born’s 38th birthday – thinking about wealth.
Yes, I am wealthy, by my (or really most people’s) definition. I have enough money to see me through the end of my days and leave my heirs a glorious gift. I don’t work for anyone else – I now control my own day, my own destiny. My health is good, my hubby by my side, my grandkids growing physically strong and intellectually sound and my children launched successfully into the world. Family is near – and comforting and my days are filled with physical and intellectual challenges as I continue my blogging and web adventures.
And yet, I wonder – am I forgetting the wealth of all mankind. What of the wonders we have created and the wonders of our world:

such as the scientific achievement of the international space station;
such as the advancements in medical and electronic technology which allow paralyzed people to move objects with their mind’s electrical waves;
such as a young singer’s crystal clear voice raising beautiful music through the mountains;
such as the glorious giving adventures undergone by so many, including the world’s billionaires pledging to give away their fortunes.
To take a moment to reflect on the beauty of the earth, the accomplishments of mankind, and the ever repeating cycle of life is a luxury we all can enjoy.
Life repeats, the leaves fall, turn brown and die but then appear again in the spring. Young folks have babies, grow and mature, then eventually become old and die, the days and seasons pass with a comforting regularity. I know that even though we die, the cycle goes on, and in some small fashion, we have enhanced it during our time.
Enjoy your wealth.
Happy Birthday my son.
